What is Pediatric Physiatry?

In extension to the general description of the Physiatrist, the Pediatric Physiatrist has additional training in the proper evaluation of the pediatric population with disabilities taking into account their underlying growth and development. The child who acquires a disability is at greater risk to lose his potential to obtain functional independence in the future.

This evaluation should generate an individualized treatment plan appropriate for the child's developmental needs. Because of the child's state of dynamic growth and development, continuous re-evaluations are required by the Pediatric Physiatrist to modify the treatment plan accordingly. In addition, family education and integration are an essential part of the treatment plan at all stages.
